Get Together Fridays: For children K-2nd grade with social communication challenges
Part 1 of 2 Length: 8 weeks When: Fridays 5-6pm Space is limited to 4 Children Cost for Session 1: $700.00 Begins March 4th
This social group will be for early elementary aged students (K-2) with social learning or social communication challenges. It will meet for 1 hour across 8 consecutive weeks. Group participants will engage in a variety of activities and lessons to learn about and practice skills and strategies to help them navigate the social world around them. Goals of this group will be to target social learning vocabulary and tools to equip them to navigate their own feelings and engage with peers. This social group will be utilizing aspects of an evidenced-based curriculum, Social Thinking, which provides social language vocabulary to describe and interpret aspects of social situations that are often left unsaid. Examples of lesson targets will include thoughts and feelings, thinking with their eyes, and being part of a group. What: Research shows that children born during the pandemic demonstrate a developmental lag across all areas: social, communication, cognitive, gross motor and fine motor.
Child’s Play is offering a group facilitated by our therapists to address these needs. Our playgroup will offer children the opportunity to participate in a semi-structured playgroup in our therapeutic gym. Run by an OT in our sensory gym, our playgroup will give children the opportunity to work on these skills through play in a social environment. A speech therapist may push into the group as they are available. Parents will join this group giving them the opportunity to support one another, as well as receive therapist coaching.
